What's your job title and where do you work?
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle surgeon. My NHS practice is based solely at the world renowned Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Newsweek's No. 1 ranked orthopaedic institution in the UK), where I am one of only four surgeons specialising in foot and ankle surgey.
I consult privately at one of central London's most well known private hospitals which is the Princess Grace Hospital. I also run clinics in North London at Elstree Waterfront Outpatients Centre and RNOH Private Care.
Where did you earn your qualifications from?
I studied medicine at University College London Medical School graduating in 2003 with an intercalated BSc in Physiology and MBBS.
I became a member of the Royal College of Surgeon in 2007 (MRCS) and went onto gain a diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (DipSEM).
In 2016, I became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS Trauma & Orthopaedics), 13 years after qualifying as a doctor.
What training have you had to become a foot and and ankle surgeon?
I graduated as a doctor from University College London Medical School in 2003 with an intercalated BSc and MBBS degrees. I completed basic surgical training in London before becoming a Clinical Research Fellow at UCLH, which fostered my interest in research.
I then joined the UCLH & Middlesex Hospital orthopaedic training programme spending three of the six year years being trained by six different foot and ankle surgeons. I then completed further long established and renowned foot & ankle fellowships in Windsor and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, and was awarded the BOSTAA fellowship to visit centres of excellence in Minneapolis, Chicago, London and Amsterdam. I learnt about different healthcare models and novel ways to treat cartilage defects in the ankle joint.
Do you like to lead, perform research or train the next generation of surgeons?
I'm fortunate to do all three.
Leadership: I was sponsored by BOFAS to complete the BOA Clinical Leaders Programme, and have previously sat on a national committee with the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS).
Research: I have over 80 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and consensus publications, and am a reviewer for the Bone and Joint Journal. My current research includes looking at syndesmotic pathology in ankle replacements. My full publication list is on my Google Scholar profile.
Teaching: I won the Top Teacher Award from UCL Medical School, run departmental teaching for registrars at the RNOH, and am regularly invited faculty for national orthopaedic training courses — including the Stanmore Foot Course, for which I am a co-convenor.
